Małe Rockshelter is a part of Bramka Rockshelter, which we excavated in 2017. It is a niche 3,5 metres deep with irregular shape. During professor’s Waldemar Chmielewski excavations in Bramka Rockshelt er Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age artefacts where found. They were unfortunately in one, mixed holocene layer. Although our works in 2017 made possible to re-check the old profile, it was partialy destroyed by caviteies made by rodents. We still weren’t satisfied with stratigraphical recognition of the site. We decide then to come back in May 2019 and fin a place, which was never before explored. We chosed Małe Rockshelter.

During exploration we documented everything through drawings and photos. In the foreground there is a Total Station, thanks to this tool we can measure artefacts in three dimensions. Phot. Małgorzata Kot

Trench, that we opened, was just 1m to 1m, by we succeded in finding several hundred artefacts, as well as bones. Same as in previous seasons we flotated all of the soil. Our excavation lasted just a week!
